Adrian Johnston ACII APFS, Chartered Financial Planner, Certified Financial Planner

Adrian is Managing Director and the founder of the firm. His career started in 1971 with Friends Provident Life Office where he spent ten years, in six of which he specialised in handling pension schemes. In 1981 he joined Noble Lowndes Personal Financial Services Ltd as a Financial Services Consultant. They were the private client part of an international pensions consultancy group.

In 1987 Adrian left Noble Lowndes to start Johnston Financial. He has wide ranging responsibility for management, regulatory compliance and training as well as advising a small number of clients. Adrian is experienced in the whole spectrum of financial planning although he specialises in the diverse subjects of Pensions, Investment and Inheritance Tax planning and is the designer and investment adviser of our Executive Portfolio Service. He also with John McArdle developed and planned the launch of The Nevis Fund, which was our own Multi-Asset investment fund for our clients.

As well as being in the first group ever to be awarded the Chartered Financial Planner qualification, Adrian is the holder of the Personal Finance Society’s pensions qualification and is registered with the FCA as a pension transfer specialist.  Adrian has also been awarded the Institute of Financial Planning’s, Certified Financial Plannercm, qualification.

In addition to his responsibilities at Johnston Financial, Adrian has previously held a number of external directorships. These include:

  • IFA Portfolio Ltd – a company providing a range of compliance, product, marketing and media services to IFAs throughout the UK.
  • Anglo Caledonian Ltd – an IFA member network responsible for the regulation and business processing of its UK wide membership.
  • Yours4Money Ltd – an online financial services business.

Trade Association and Regulatory involvements include:

  • Member of the Personal Investment Authority (PIA) Small Business Practitioner Panel from 1999 to 2001. This panel reported directly the board of PIA, the regulatory authority at that time, on all aspects of their rules and policy as it affected their small business membership.
  • Area chairman for the IFA Association in East Central Scotland from 1990 to 1997

Charity involvements include:

  • Trustee of Blackhall St Columba’s Church of Scotland
  • Royal Society for the Relief of Indigent Gentlewomen of Scotland – Committee of Management & Investment Sub Committee
